Type-changing artifacts usually rewrite the battlefield; this one rewrites the graveyard, which is a stranger and narrower place to work. The chosen type lands on every creature card in your yard, so the card exists to feed effects that read off creature type from the bin: reanimation that demands a tribe, recursion that fetches a specific kind, payoffs that count members of a type among the dead. It does nothing to your hand and nothing to the board, which is precisely why it tends to slip past evaluators who measure cards by their immediate footprint. The era that produced it was deep in tribal mechanics, and this is the support piece that assumes you already have a graveyard worth retyping: a payoff for the payoff. Retyping the dead only matters if something already cares about the dead, so the card is connective tissue rather than an engine in its own right. Its closest conceptual cousins are the battlefield-wide type changers, but moving the effect into the graveyard turns a tribal-anthem idea into a toolbox enabler, letting a pile of unrelated dead creatures suddenly answer a "return target [type]" prompt or pad a tribal count. The single chosen type is its limiting principle: you commit to one word on entry, and every later play that wants to exploit the bin has to route through that choice.
