Arena Athlete
The heroic trigger here fires outward instead of inward. Where most creatures with the keyword hand you a counter, a token, or a permanent bump on the creature you just targeted, this one aims its payoff at the defending board: cast a spell at the Athlete, and a creature your opponent controls loses the ability to block for the turn. The clause never names the Athlete as the one that gets through, either, which is the genuinely unusual part. The pump spell you cast to shove this fragile 2/1 into combat can simultaneously strand the blocker that would have traded with your biggest attacker, so the trigger reads as a one-sided combat manipulator rather than a self-buff. The catch is the one that binds every fragile heroic enabler: firing costs you a card, the reward lasts a single turn, and a 2/1 body invites exactly the removal your targeting spells were meant to outrace. The effect only compounds inside a spells-matter shell throwing cheap spells at its own creatures, where the targeting count climbs high enough that the can't-block line accumulates into pressure instead of a one-off trick. Built as a body, it is replaceable; built as a tempo lever, it does something most of its keyword cohort does not.
