Two keywords and nothing else: white's flagship creature type stripped to its load-bearing parts. The vigilance is doing the structural work, letting a single body serve as both the clock and the wall, which is exactly the dual role white wanted from its top-end angels. It is why a beater this plain still closes games instead of folding to the first blocker that trades up. There is no enters-the-battlefield value, no activated ability, no lifegain. That austerity is itself a statement about what an Angel was supposed to mean in an earlier era, when raw evasion and the ability to swing without lowering your guard were each worth a steep premium. The 5/5 body looks expensive now because the cost of flying and the cost of vigilance have both fallen since, not because the design was confused; it priced the two things white most wanted from its finishers and charged for both. Later angels would layer on recursion, anthems, and drain triggers, but this is the bare archetype they all descend from: a large flyer that holds the line and ends the game.
