Arcbound Whelp

Artifact Creature — Dragon3 generic manaRed mana

Modular's original home was colorless artifacts that shuffled counters between mechanical bodies: Arcbound Ravager, Arcbound Worker, the whole Mirrodin-era shell built around the death trigger relocating a creature's mass. Grafting that keyword onto a red body with a firebreathing pump ability is the design twist. It enters as an evasive threat that can grow at instant speed off open red mana, and when it dies its two counters redirect to another artifact creature, so the aggression it represents is never fully answered by a single removal spell. The 0/0 printed base is the tell: this thing does not exist without its counters, which is exactly why the modular clause matters so much. A trade or a block leaves the counters looking for a new home, and the flying pump ability means the counters were always attached to a clock rather than a wall. That combination (evasion, a mana sink, and a body that pays out on death) makes it read less like a curve-filler and more like a piece meant to slot into a deck that wants counters moving around the board, where its death is a feature and its attack step a threat that keeps recouping value even as it dies.
