Legal in Standard since its March 2026 printing, but yet to register in any tracked tournament deck this season. The gap is structural. A 2/2 for three that wants to connect every turn is asking the format to either ignore it or hand over a clean attack step, and current Standard does neither for free. The engine only justifies the slot once the damage number climbs, which means it needs evasion or pump support stacked around a fragile body, and the decks that would want that filtering (the more controlling blue shells) are not the decks fielding a 2/2 beater on turn three. The looter-with-upside read is real, but it is a payoff in search of a deck that can keep the creature alive and connecting, and that deck has not assembled itself out of the current pool. The detective type is a hook without a tribe deep enough to carry it in the format as it stands.

Its parent set rotates in the fall 2027 cycle, exact date pending Wizards' announcement, so the clock is long. The constraint is the present pool, not the calendar: nothing currently legal gives the asymmetry between scaling draw and fixed discard a reason to matter, and a future printing of cheap evasion or a deeper detective payoff is the likeliest thing that changes the read before the card leaves.
