Aphetto Grifter

The body is the disposable part: a 1/1 that dies to anything, holding a tapping engine that scales not with its own stats but with how many Wizards stand beside it. Each activation spends two untapped Wizards to tap a permanent, which makes the Grifter a tax on going wide rather than a payoff for hitting hard. Tap a blocker open before combat, tap a would-be attacker before attackers are declared, hold down a problem land or artifact, or pin a rival creature out of the fight; the target line reaches any permanent and never costs a card. Two design wrinkles carry it. First, the tappers are bodies that already do other work in the tribe, so the cost is close to free in practice and competes only with attacking. Second, there is redundancy built into the cost: no single Wizard is load-bearing, so killing one of your tappers barely dents a board deep enough to feed the ability. What undercuts all of it is that the engine lives entirely on the Grifter itself. The activated ability is printed here, not handed out to the tribe, so removing this 1/1 removes the lock outright, which is precisely why a fragile body holding a powerful repeatable answer reads as a target the way it does. Among the tribe's enablers it is one of the quieter ones: no card draw, no tempo swing on the turn it lands, just a conditional answer that a wide Wizard board pays for by tapping down.
