Anti-Magic Aura

Shroud, before the word existed. The "can't be the target of spells" clause is the same protective shape Wizards would later codify as a keyword and then largely set aside in favor of hexproof, but in the mid-1990s the design was working out the grammar from scratch, and the result is a curious half-measure: a blue Aura that shields a creature from targeted removal while simultaneously locking it out of every other Aura it might wear. That self-limiting rider gives the card its character. It is built as a defensive parasite rather than a buff package, and it cuts both ways. Hang it on your own threat to make it untouchable, and you accept that you can never pump it with the rest of your Aura suite. Hang it on an opponent's creature already carrying a pump Aura such as Holy Strength, and the "can't be enchanted by other Auras" clause does immediate work: that existing Aura becomes illegally attached and falls off as a state-based action, stripping the buff while the protection clause keeps running against your own targeted answers. The split between "can't be the target of spells" and the silence on abilities marks a moment when the stack and targeting rules were still being formalized. Later shroud and hexproof Auras descend from this silhouette; none carries the "no other Auras" clause, because design eventually decided the protection alone was worth carrying on its own.
