Flavor wired directly into the stat box: the crusading mob swells in proportion to how deep the enemy has dug into black mana, every Swamp across the table another pitchfork in the crowd. It is a white morality play rendered in arithmetic, where the size of the mob is the size of the sin it has gathered to punish. The turn-clock restriction is the leash on the design. The body shrinks to a flat 2/2 the moment it isn't your turn, so it refuses to scale on defense off the opponent's manabase; the payoff arrives only when you commit to the attack, never when you'd rather hide behind a hedge. That makes it a deeply conditional creature whose entire value is hostage to a single opposing land type, the kind of narrow, opponent-dependent power that later design largely walked away from. A villain who never touches Swamps leaves you with a plain 2/2 trampler, and there is no way to coax the number higher on your own. But as a snapshot of how flavor once dictated structure rather than the other way around, it is a clean one: the crowd grows exactly as large as the grudge it answers.
