Red recursion arrived years before Eternal Witness made retrieval green's job, and arrived narrower by exactly the amount that matters: where the green standard reclaims any card type, this one reaches only for sorceries. The narrowness is the point. A 2/2 for five mana is a body nobody wants on rate, so the card lives entirely on the trigger, and the trigger asks you to build a deck whose payoffs are concentrated in one card type rather than spread across instants, artifacts, and lands. The reward is repeatability in a color that historically spent its recursion on burn-it-back-to-hand effects rather than clean retrieval. Pair the return with a sorcery that produces a creature or a tutor and the value compounds, but the leash holds: no instant it can buy back, no artifact it can fetch, no flexibility to pivot mid-game. What it does well, it does on a tight rail. The body folds into a sacrifice loop or a flicker engine readily enough, and the trigger fires on each entry, which is the entire reason anyone keeps the card around long after a 2/2 stops mattering. It is a piece built for the deck that already decided sorceries are its engine, and a quiet early sketch of an idea green would later get to do without the restriction.
