An-Havva Inn

Sorcery1 generic manaGreen manaGreen mana

A lifegain spell that scales with the green board, and one that pays out worse than the count suggests. The tell is in how it counts: it tallies every green creature on the battlefield, yours and your opponents' alike, but only the caster banks the life. That global count is the oddity, a spell that grows larger the more green the table is while crediting one side only, which means a developed opposing board hands you a bigger number without doing anything to slow the player who built it. Spending a full turn at sorcery speed to convert a snapshot of the board into a pile of life points is a card-disadvantage trade that rarely changes who is ahead, and by the time you have the creatures to make it large, you are usually trying to win combat rather than buy time. This is the era of design where Wizards was still testing whether one-shot lifegain could be a strategy unto itself, and Homelands kept arriving at the answer that conditional life totals are neither a clock nor a wall. The "plus 1" floor guarantees the spell does something with an empty board, but one life is not a reason to run a card. Read it as a fossil of pre-modern green's identity crisis: a color flush with creatures but unsure what to do with the lifegain it kept being handed, before later sets learned to staple life to a body or a relevant trigger instead of selling it as a standalone effect.
