An-Havva Constable

Creature — Human1 generic manaGreen manaGreen mana

A board-state barometer dressed as a body. The toughness clause counts every green creature in play, not just your own, which is the design wrinkle that defines it: the card scales with the color rather than the controller, so a green mirror inflates both sides equally and the creature counts itself, leaving it a 2/2 even on an otherwise empty board. That global count separates it from the later "your other Elves get +1/+1" school of tribal anthems; it buffs nothing but itself, so it is no lord at all, but a wall that fattens exactly when the table is greenest. Only its toughness scales, never its power, which fixes its role cleanly: it brawls upward in defense, getting harder and harder to kill as the green ground stalls, but it can never push more than two damage back. The defensive-only scaling is the entire point. It answers an aggressive board by becoming a better blocker rather than a better attacker, and because the count is symmetric across the table, it rarely operates in the vacuum a fixed 2/4 would. The set it comes from has a reputation for fiddly, overwrought text; this lands among the tidier examples of the era's instinct toward conditional stats, a creature that asks you to read the whole battlefield before declaring an attack into it.
