Amulet of Unmaking

Artifact5 generic mana

A toolbox answer wearing the body of a permanent, and the whole package is an exercise in paying full price up front. The exile-it-to-exile-it structure makes this a single-use removal spell stapled to an artifact slot: it deploys as a standing deterrent, then spends itself entirely the moment it answers something. Stapling the self-exile to the activation is the discipline that caps the effect at exactly one use; the artifact leaves with the target, so there is no recurring engine to assemble around it. What it buys for that cost is breadth and finality. Removal that exiles, in an era when most answers handed a permanent back to its owner, was rare, and catching an artifact, a creature, or a land with the same activation while leaving nothing in the graveyard is the kind of clean answer that color-bound removal of the period could not match. The total commitment is steep: five to deploy, five more plus the tap to fire, and the whole turn telegraphed by the sorcery-speed restriction. That is the trade the card asks for: it answers the thing nothing else in your colors can touch, exiles it for good, and assumes you knew the bill before you sat down.
