Creature — Illusion5 generic manaBlue manaBlue mana

Bouncing itself to hand looks like the opposite of what a seven-mana flier wants to do, which is exactly why this Illusion fits the type so well: protection rendered as a recursion loop instead of a hexproof keyword. The self-bounce clause turns a fragile attacker into something you can never quite pin down. Hold up the mana and a discard, and any removal spell pointed at it fizzles into a reset rather than a clean answer; the body simply goes home and comes back next turn, no worse for the exchange. The result is an evasive threat that survives sorcery-speed sweepers and dodges targeted answers at instant speed, in a color that rarely gets to keep a large flier honest against removal. The price for that resilience is card economy: every protection activation eats a card from hand, so the longer the standoff drags, the more it bleeds you. The era that produced it was preoccupied with the graveyard, and feeding cards to a discard outlet was often upside rather than pure loss, which is the context that made this design sit cleanly alongside its contemporaries. The fantasy is the Illusion that refuses to die because it was never quite there to begin with: invulnerability bought with each card you can spare, a creature that wins by retreating.
