The transform condition is the whole engine here: attack with exactly two creatures, not one and not three, and the front face flips. That "exactly two" clause is a genuine deckbuilding restraint disguised as a trigger. It rewards the tight, disciplined attack step of a go-wide-but-not-too-wide board and punishes the reflexive alpha strike, which is a rare thing to ask of an aggressive red-leaning shell. The reward for threading it is the back half, where the design leans into a piece of rules texture most cards never touch: the mana added on transform is explicitly protected from the usual emptying of mana pools between steps and phases, so it survives the shift from the declare-attackers step into the rest of the turn. That carve-out exists because the natural line is to flip during declare-attackers and then have red mana available to pump through the ensuing combat damage step, and without the protection the mana would evaporate as that step ends before it could do anything later. The result is a creature that manufactures its own fuel for its own pump ability at exactly the moment that ability matters, folding a mana source, a trample threat, and a repeatable combat trick into one card that only assembles itself if you attack the way it insists.
