Aggravate

Instant3 generic manaRed manaRed mana

A coercion spell wearing a pinger's clothing. The one point of damage to each creature is almost incidental: it rarely kills anything worth killing. The clause that matters is "attacks this turn if able," which conscripts the target player's whole board into a swing they never chose to make. Aim it at an opponent who has overcommitted to defense and their army walks straight into your waiting blockers, tricks, and removal. The timing is the entire cost. Because creatures only attack on their controller's turn and the compulsion binds only the current turn, this has to resolve on the target player's turn, at instant speed, before the declare-attackers step: their upkeep, their draw, their main phase. Cast it a beat too late, after attackers are already declared, or on an empty board, and five mana buys a scattering of single points and nothing else. That precision is what pays for the effect, along with the demand that you supply your own punishment on the back end; the spell only sets up the alpha strike, it does not close it. It lives in a small recurring pocket of red that penalizes the act of having creatures rather than the creatures themselves, a design impulse that also runs through goad and other forced-combat effects. A specialist's tool, but when the board tilts right, few cards turn a defensive line into a suicidal charge this cleanly.
