Aether Gust

Instant1 generic manaBlue mana

The color hoser reinvented as tempo rather than punishment. Older sideboard cards that hated on a pair of colors tended to be blunt instruments: destroy the permanent, counter the spell, deal the damage. This one answers red or green by handing the card back to its owner on their choice of library position, which sounds soft until you count the tempo. Against a spell, it removes the threat while letting the owner tuck it top or bottom, so at best they must redraw the thing; against an already-resolved threat, it is a two-mana bounce that buries the reload deep enough to matter. The "owner's choice" clause is the tell that this is a tempo card, not removal: you never get to force the worst outcome, so the value is entirely in the mana and turns you buy, not in the card advantage you deny. That instant-speed flexibility is what widened its home from the sideboard into maindecks: it can protect your own board on a combat step, blank a burn spell mid-stack, or reset an opposing threat the turn it lands. The design lesson is that a hoser stops feeling like a hoser once it does something proactive; catch a green ramp spell or a red haste threat at the right window and it reads less like hate and more like a well-priced piece of interaction that happens to be color-locked.
