Aether Charge

Enchantment4 generic manaRed mana

A tribe built on the premise that Beasts are big, slow, and earthbound got handed reach here, and the payoff is structural rather than incremental. Every Beast you control that enters pings a chosen opponent or planeswalker for four, so the same fatties that grind on the ground also close from outside combat entirely. That doubles the value of any Beast-producing engine and converts a board that gets swept into a clock that does not need bodies surviving long: each re-entry is another four off the top. The directed four damage is the tell about an earlier design era's instincts, when red could be handed a repeatable burn engine gated entirely behind a creature type, with the deckbuilding cost of going all-in on Beasts treated as the price. Crucially, the trigger keys only off your own Beasts, never an opponent's, and the damage points only at a player or a planeswalker, never at an opposing creature, so this kills players, not blockers, and it does nothing while you sit across from the Beast deck. It sits inert without Beasts to feed it, which is why it works as a build-around payoff rather than a finisher you can splash. Pair it with a token engine that floods the board with Beasts and the two cards together kill out of nowhere, ignoring the combat step entirely. The gate it asks you to clear, a critical mass of Beasts, is far easier to assemble now than when the tribe was an afterthought.
