Aegis of the Gods

Enchantment Creature — Human Soldier1 generic manaWhite mana

Hexproof had always been a creature's defense; here the keyword reaches up and wraps the player instead. The body is incidental: a 2/1 nobody deploys for combat. What the card grants is a permanent that shuts off every targeted spell or ability an opponent aims at your face, the whole class of direct burn, hand disruption, and "target player" effects that bypass the board entirely. The catch is that it protects you and not your stuff: opponents can still target your creatures, your other enchantments, and this very card, which is the discipline that keeps player-hexproof from being oppressive. Kill the 2/1 and the wall comes down. That fragility is the entire bargain. Against a plan that wins by pointing spells at your life total or your hand, it is a brick wall on a stick; against anything that attacks or removes its way through the board, it is a fragile two-drop with no relevant text. It belongs to a small lineage of permanents that grant the player hexproof rather than a creature, the structural cousin to effects reading "you can't lose the game" against a narrow line of attack: both are surgical answers to a specific way of dying, useless when the opponent simply does something else. The interesting design move is the inversion itself, taking a keyword built to shield a body and reorienting it to shield the controller, with the body's frailty paying for the reach.
