Connive was the mechanic built to reward decks that wanted to filter rather than raw-draw, and this is the plainest expression of it stapled to an evasive body. The math is honest: four mana buys a 3/2 with menace and a card-selection trigger, and the trigger folds the payoff into the same action as the smoothing. Loot away a nonland, grow to a 4/3; loot away a land you didn't need, stay a 3/2 but keep the swap. Either branch is fine, which is the whole point of connive as a designed keyword: it never whiffs, it just varies how much it gives. Menace is the piece that turns the modest body into a clock, since a two-block requirement on an attacker that trades up in size is awkward for a defender to answer with a single creature. Nothing here is loud, and that's deliberate; this is the kind of common-to-uncommon curve-filler that makes an aggressive black midrange shell function, feeding the graveyard, applying pressure, and never sitting dead in hand because the connive line always does something. It reads as filler on the page and plays as glue at the table.
