A lifegain payoff that pays in bodies, then a token payoff that pays in more bodies, folded into one two-drop. First strike and lifelink turn the 1/1 frame into a source of incidental life almost every combat, which feeds the end-step trigger, which builds toward the ten-permanent threshold the card wants. Ascend is the pivot. Before the city's blessing, gaining life makes one Cat a turn; after, every token that entered that turn gets copied, and because the trigger's first clause creates a Cat immediately before the copy clause looks, crossing ten guarantees at least that fresh Cat doubles, on top of anything else that came down this turn. The same lifelink attack that once netted a single body suddenly pays double. The card is a self-fueling ramp toward its own payoff: the tokens it makes push you past ten permanents, and crossing ten is what makes the tokens multiply. Earlier lifegain-into-tokens designs stalled at linear output; this one compounds, because the second half only turns on once the first half has done enough work to trigger it. The copy clause only sees tokens that entered this turn, so it rewards a turn where you have been busy, not just a life gain in isolation: a board you have grown wide multiplies harder than one you have merely stabilized. That is a subtler ask than the rate suggests.
