A-Cauldron Familiar

Creature — CatBlack mana

The rebalanced sibling of one of the most notorious drain engines the game has produced. The base version turned a Food token and a 1/1 Cat into a recursive life-loss loop: sacrifice a Food to bring the Cat back, retrigger the enter drain, then remake the Food, and repeat until the opponent is dead. The A- prefix marks the tuned-down variant, but the machinery is identical. What made this design so dangerous is that it split one payoff across two cheap, disposable objects, so no single removal spell breaks the loop; you have to answer the Cat and the Food supply at once, and the Cat lives in the graveyard where most answers cannot reach it. The can't-block clause is the concession that pays for all this: the recurring body is purely a drain trigger, not a defensive wall, so the card cannot both loop and hold the ground. It reads as a modest one-mana creature, but the strategic axis is a mana-light attrition clock that grinds a life total down a point at a time while dodging spot removal entirely. The loop's real cost is time and the Food factory feeding it, which is why the whole archetype rose and fell on how cheaply a table could manufacture the tokens.
